Marqueta Bliss Obituary

Marqueta Shaune’ Bliss was born on October 13, 1979 in Alexandria, Virginia to George A. Bliss and Jacqueline Moment. Shortly after birth her family moved to Denver, Colorado where she would live for ten years.  She later relocated to the east coast and lived in Atlanta, Georgia, Rochester, New York and Orlando, Florida. She is a graduate of Maynard Evans High School (Class of 1998). Marqueta attended University of Phoenix with a major in Child Psychology.

Marqueta has been employed at Orlando Junior Academy since 2012. At different times, she has served as registrar, substitute teacher, teacher’s aide, enrichment provider, receptionist and administrative assistant. However, the office was not the only place one would find her. For instance, her last Friday at OJA saw her supporting the gymnastics program after school. It was evident that loving on children was the “core” of who Marqueta was. She spoke very fondly of how attending outdoor school during the 2015-16 school year was a highlight for her and indeed, she was hoping to do that again this year. “Ms. Marqueta” knew every student not only by face, but by name.

Marqueta was a playwright and actor.  She wrote plays for the AYS groups at Patmos Chapel and other churches around the Central Florida area.  She recently was given the opportunity to take her talents and love for drama to the next level.  She auditioned with Theatre 1901earlier and won a role in The Wiz and Sister Act. Lavarious, the manager at Theatre 1901 states that Marqueta “shinned bright in The Wiz in late August and had started rehearsing for Sister Act!" A show that is now being dedicated to her.

Marqueta began her walk with Christ at an early age and remained a faithful member of the Seventh-day Adventist faith throughout her life. She loved God and was very active in church ministries, including AYS and Adventurers.

We find comfort in knowing that Marqueta spent her life serving the Lord and others, and even at the time she fell ill, she was doing what she loved, using her talents to glorify  God.  We believe when the Lord returns in the cloud He will say to Marqueta, "Well done, Marqueta Shaune' Bliss, Well Done."

She leaves to mourn her passing: her mother, Jacqueline Moment (Atlanta, GA), her father, George (Janyce) Bliss, (Rochester, NY), one brother Marcus J. Moment (Atlanta, GA), two foster daughters, Onora Harris, Destiny Daniels and one foster granddaughter, Desiree' A. Brown (Orlando, FL); Grandmother Edna M. Moment (Albany, GA); seven aunts, Janet (Jimmie) Bridley Orlando, FL, Desiree Coleman, Jill Shaw (Rochester, NY), Joyce Moment, Judy Moment (Atlanta, GA), Rhonda Moment (Atlanta, GA) and Melissa Bliss (Huntsville, AL); six uncles, Gordon (Veronica) Bliss, Jr., Timothy (Pauline) Bliss, Kreag Bliss (Rochester, NY), John H. (Jerdline) Moment, Jr. (Atlanta, GA), James (Sandra) Moment (Orlando, FL) and Brian Bliss (Canandaigua, NY). Two godmothers, Dylinda Charles (Atlanta, GA), Claretta Lampkin (Orlando, FL), and a host of relatives and friends.
