Murdel Cunningham was born to Murdell Stoddart on September 3, 1926 in Somerton, Saint James, Jamaica. She was the fourth of 12 children. Murdel was raised in Somerton, and she completed her early education there. She has one daughter, Eva Williams.
While living in Somerton, Ms. Murdel Cunningham was baptized into the Seventh-day Adventist Church where she gladly served in several roles as an active member. She married Gossett Cunningham prior to migrating to Mount Vernon, New York in 1975, and it was not long afterwards that her husband joined her.
Ms. Cunningham was a young ambitious woman who insisted upon achieving the best she could for her family. She was clearly motivated, and her iron-will was evident even though you could not tell by looking at her.
Ms. Cunningham worked as a Home Health Aide, which was a niche for her because she clearly enjoyed taking care of people. She was an active member of Mount Vernon Seventh-day Adventist Church in New York for over 40 years.
Recently, Ms. Cunningham relocated from New York to enjoy her latter years in Florida with her daughter, Eva and son-in-law, who she called “Brother Will.” Her legacy will be carried on by her three sisters, two brothers, one daughter, four grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, one son-in-law and a countless number of nephews, nieces & cousins. May Murdel rest in peace!
She will be missed, but never forgotten!
