Roy Shelton Obituary

Roy Lee Shelton was born in Crescent City, Florida on April 20, 1957.  He was the seventh of thirteen children born to Raymond Shelton, Jr. and Mae Alice Mincey.  In 1968, his parents moved to Central Florida seeking a better life for their children.  They settled in Saint Cloud, Florida where Roy attended Saint Cloud High School.  Roy later moved to Kissimmee, Florida where he resided until the Lord called him Home.

Roy was a very peaceful, hardworking and compassionate family man. He read his Bible daily, and firmly believed that you should treat people the way you want to be treated. Roy’s greatest love was the Lord. He was a child of God; he was a baptized Christian; and he regularly attended Mount Zion and Kissimmee Seventh-day Adventist Churches in Kissimmee, Florida.

As a husband and father, Roy was a positive role model, a provider, protector, teacher, and also an authority figure.  However, Roy had a soft spot for the ladies, especially his wife, Maria, and his daughters.  If you were ever in need of advice or a listening ear, you could depend on Roy. He could always be found working in the yard or watching the birds when he took a break from his work, and he never missed an opportunity to encourage or inspire someone to live right.

Roy had a sense of style.  Whether he was going to church or on an outing, he would always be presentable letting the blessings of the Lord shine through him.  He took pride in his surroundings and expected no less from those around him.  Roy believed in doing a job well done. He was not selfish. He believed in the lessons in the bible, including the scripture which admonish us to leave an inheritance for our children.  Family was very important to him, and he took his role as a husband and as a father very seriously.

Roy was an entrepreneur; he had his CDL license; he believed in working for himself; he owned and operated his own trucking and sod business; he was a builder who enjoyed working with concrete; he was a farmer; he was multi-talented; and he was comfortable working at pretty much any task on a construction site.  In Roy’s spare time, he liked to fish, and he even grew his own worms for bait.

Family was extremely important to Roy. It was not surprising that he was at home most of the time. Roy was surrounded by his beloved and close knit family. There were blurred lines when it came to his relationships, for it was hard to distinguish whether a daughter or a grandchild shared his DNA or happened to be a child of a spouse. He loved them no less.

Roy had a special place in his heart for his dear wife, who to him was called “My Maria.” To her, he is affectionately called “Bambino.”  You hardly saw one without the other, and so it remained till the end. For her, he trekked all the way to     Georgia, and lived there one year in Hoschton to woo and  marry his Maria. Roy also  loved his daughter, Shemika, dearly, and for her, he would do anything.  He also searched tirelessly for his long lost first child, Aretha, for many years. Of no less importance to him was his dear  beloved Geneva, his step daughter, who he raised from a few months old.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents - Raymond and Mae Shelton; and two siblings - Mamie Gillion and Evvine Shelton.  Left to cherish his precious memories are his beloved wife  Maria Shelton; children - Aretha Ree Smith, Shemika Shelton ; step children - Geneva Coy, Lawrence Love, Anita Coy, Shani Coy and Peter Stewart (Macia); grandchildren - Jakeira       Burney, JaBari Greene, JaDyn Lockhart, Samya Chappell and Coreyana Daniels; siblings - Essie Mae Jones, Raymond  Shelton Jr., Alvin Shelton, Berniece Shelton, Charles Shelton, Laura Shelton-Scott (Kenny), Eddie Shelton and Ray Shelton; godchildren - Judy Brown, Tywuan Edmond, Venice Wilson,     Antonio Holliman and Sonia Lacen; and a host of other family and friends. We, the family, take responsibility for the errors that are ours, and are seeking only to have them corrected with no intention of cast blame.
