Dessie Francis, 89, was born on January 10, 1929 to the parents of Cyril and Augusta Francis in St. Mary, Jamaica. She has always been the matriarch of her family, making great sacrifices for her children and family members. Dessie came to the United States in June of 1965 and worked at Clara Maass Medical Center in the housekeeping department for 35 years.
Dessie was baptized by Pastor Roy Brown in the early 1970s at Seventh-day Adventist Church of the Crossroads in East Orange, New Jersey which later became the Seventh-Day Adventist Church of the Oranges. She served as a faithful deaconess and longtime member until she retired and relocated to Jacksonville, Florida where she attended the South Point Seventh-day Adventist Church and later became a founding member of the First Coast International Seventh-day Adventist Church. Dessie loved to witness for the Lord, work in community service, and pass out tracks.
Dessie went to sleep on October 19, 2018. She leaves to cherish her memory: a younger sister, Dorriel Baker; four (4) children: Lenworth Warren (Andrea), Derrick Warren, Marcia Warren-West, and Patrick Warren (Arlene); twelve (12) grandchildren: Nikole (1), Nazah (Omar; 2), Cordell, Shawn (Jessikah; 3), Christine, Alicia (3), Alexandria (Oscar; 1), Brandon (Gayle; 2), Melanie (1), Lezley (1), Dionne (4), and Kerry-Kay (1); and a beautiful host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ.
Dessie truly believed there was nothing too hard for God and a firm believer in her favorite saying, “The Lord takes care of His own.”
