Courtenay Escoffery Obituary Courtenay Charles St. Elmo Escoffery Sr. was born in Kingston, Jamaica on April 20th, 1953. He had two brothers, Keats and Carl, of which Courtenay was the oldest. He had a voracious appetite for reading which led to his extensive knowledge of many subjects. Courtenay migrated to New York in his late teens where he met his first wife, Phyllis. They had three children: Lauren, Courtenay II, and Schadique. Throughout the years he forged many strong relationships, but none stronger than his relationship with God. Though not perfect, he stayed true to himself and his firmly held beliefs: searing honesty, the pursuit of knowledge and understanding, and a burning desire to understand his creator more.
After 30 beautiful years of marriage, curious to a fault, Courtenay and Phyllis divorced. Courtenay then forged a new path in life that led him to eventually find Grace, with whom he built a life in Florida. He forged meaningful relationships with her two children Nydia and Chris. He had a sharp intellect, a keen spiritual sense, a gregarious spirit, and deep insight. But above all, he wanted to be helpful to anyone he came across, whether his closest friend of many years, someone he just met, or a patient. He had a word of encouragement and a smile to give. He loved to dance with or without a partner and to his own tune. He loved the Lord and awaited the coming of His Kingdom. He was our dad, and he was cool, and we loved him. He will be missed.
