Jeffrey Barnes Obituary On August 8, 1942, Jeffrey Arthur Barnes was born to the late Granville and Maize Barnes in the lush rolling hills of Manchester, Jamaica. He was a spirited and mischievous child and was a brilliant student who excelled at academics. Jeffrey went to sleep in the Lord on January 2, 2016 in Ormond Beach, FL.
Jeffrey attended Pike Elementary and Holmwood Technical High Schools, both in Manchester, Jamaica. He also attended Mico Teachers College where he received a BA in education. A number of schools and communities later benefitted from his expertise in education and training, starting at Black River Elementary and ending at Melrose Elementary and Junior High in Kingston, Jamaica.
It was during his tenure at Chetola Park Elementary that he met the love of his life, the charming Ena Sheriffe hailing from the parish of St. Mary. Ena was swept off her feet by the wit and charm of Jeffrey. They were married on April 12, 1969 after a year of courtship. This union which lasted 46 years was blessed with two daughters, Debbie and Staci-Jo.
Jeffrey was a loving husband to Ena. He was a family man and an excellent provider for his wife and children as well as a strong father figure, not only to his biological children but to a host of others he had 'adopted' as his own. He loved young people and had a special place in his heart for them. He would often encourage young folks wherever he saw them to stay in school; to excel at whatever they pursued; and to be the best that they could be. He believed in the core values of ambition, gratitude, hard work, and kindness to all.
Jeffrey was a member of Patmos Chapel SDA Church in Winter Park, Florida. He loved the Lord and had a personal relationship with God. He enjoyed family devotions which were spirit-filled and allowed a closer walk with God and encouraged close family bonds.
He was a man of the soil who had a green thumb and a great appreciation for nature. Everything he touched became fruitful and productive. He was a horticultural specialist as his gardens were filled with beautiful blooms that were always a pleasure to behold. He would share what he grew in his garden. On Sabbath one was sure to see him passing out love packages of goodness from his garden.
Jeffrey was preceded in death by his parents Granville and Maize Barnes and two brothers, Everold and Narcott Barnes. He leaves to celebrate his life and contributions his wife Ena, daughters- Debbie Leslie (Glenroy) of Jamaica and Staci-Jo Velez (Harold) of Debary, FL; two grandchildren, Jadon and Joel Leslie; two brothers- Collin and Anthony Barnes; four sisters- Cordeline Dunkley, Lorna Phang, Maxine and Deanne Barnes; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and 'adopted' family members and friends.
