Obituary

Mr. Allen Robertson, Jr Obituary To Everything There is . . . A Time To Be Born. Brother Allen Clarence Robertson, Jr. was born on October 7, 1929 in Montgomery, AL to the late Mr. Allen, Sr., and Sis. Emma Robertson. In addition to his parents, Allen was preceded in death by his sisters Dorothy Robertson and Ermine Knight, and his brother Bill Robertson. To Serve. At a very young age Allen volunteered for the US Army and served his country proudly from September 1952 - 1954 during the Korean War. To Be Reborn. Upon discharge from the Army, Allen returned to his hometown of Montgomery. An amazing event took place that summer that changed his life forever. Allen was baptized into the Seventh - day Adventist Church after attending a 22 - week evangelistic crusade that was conducted by Elder E. E. Cleveland. Allen attended every meeting except the very first one. Why? He did not know about it the first night. To Learn. Immediately following his baptism in 1955, Allen moved to Huntsville, AL to attend Oakwood Academy. He was known for his poetry and singing. His very favorite song, "The Holy City" became his coat- of- arms, his trademark. He frequently led out in early morning Prayer Meetings in the dorm and would sing and speak too. His favorite teacher was Mrs. Florence Winslow and he loved her and her English classes. Mrs. Winslow introduced "Olde English" to her class and Allen was the only student in the class who could speak it as it was taught. He especially enjoyed literature and Paradise Lost was one of his favorites. He graduated in 1959 and gave a farewell sermon when he left. To Change Places. He returned to Montgomery for a short time. He then moved to Orlando, FL in 1960 and worked as an Orderly at the first Dr. Phillips Hospital, a healing place for 'coloreds', operated by Seventh - day Adventists. He was later employed by the City of Orlando until retirement. To Join. Allen joined Mt. Sinai SDA Church when it was on Parramore Street in 1960. You guessed it. He joined the Sanctuary Choir and later the Male Chorus. He also served as Deacon and Security Guard. He was diligent about attending Sabbath School, Prayer Meeting, and service rarely missed unless he was out of town. Allen was a frequent attendee of the M. C. Strachan Youth Federation and participated in the afternoon musicals when vocalists and choirs displayed their talents. Allen won first place in a musical competition singing "The Holy City." Not only was he singing at the federation, he had his eyes open for a wife. Allen was a very devoted and conscientious member of the Excelcians, a Mt. Sinai Drama Group. To Love. At federation Allen saw a kind, gentle, soft-spoken usher named Julia Pauline Cromortie and he introduced himself. Julia was a student at the St. Petersburg Junior College. After her graduation, Julia accepted Allen's proposal and agreed to change her name. She became his bride and moved to Orlando. To this union two children were born. To Move. After nearly 40 years Allen transferred his membership to Maranatha SDA Church, Pastor O. H. Paul, Pastor. At his beloved Maranatha Brother Allen joined the Sanctuary choir and later the Men's Chorale. He was a Deacon until his health began to fail and he was devoted about attending all services, including Sabbath School and Prayer Meeting. Allen lived quite a distance from Maranatha, but he would catch two or three busses and walk the remaining distance to ensure that he was on time. Most Sabbaths he stayed all day to be sure to participate in rehearsals and support the AYS programs. To Share. For several years Allen enjoyed sharing his love of Jesus with literature. He was an independent Literature Evangelist. To Leave. Allen loved the Lord Jesus and it was 'well with his soul.' Quietly, on September 19, 2013, he slipped away from the joys and toils of this life. He fell asleep in Jesus and waits for the first trumpet sound and to get a view of "The Holy City." Well done! Family members who will miss him are his wife, Julia Pauline; son, Wilfred; daughter, Alicia, Granddaughter, Sabrina Turner, nieces, cousins, and a very close friend Sister Lizzie Jones. He will also be missed by his Mt. Sinai and Maranatha Church families, many associates and friends. Funeral Services are entrusted to WALDON Professional Funeral & Cremation Services which is located at 710 Lexington Green Lane in Sanford, Florida.
