Mr. Ralph D'Elia Obituary Ralph Salvatore D'Elia
1927-2014
Ralph, born on April 21, 1926 in Newark, New Jersey, passed peacefully on November 5, 2014 from complications after surgery.
He was one of eight children in the D'Elia family. Growing up in a working-class family in Newark, NJ, he left school in the eighth grade to help support his family. As a young man, he spent his days enjoying the bustle of Newark life and the evenings in New York City with his close friends, having late dinners at Patsy's in Manhattan and carousing at the Copacabana. His real-life stories were epic, and colorful, and full of characters.
In the mid-1970's, he left Newark to settle in Hollywood, Florida. He married Beatrice Commarata Klug on December 8, 1978 in Pompano Beach, Florida. They made a life together in Coral Springs, with one child in the house, and three others establishing roots elsewhere. He was a gifted furniture designer, opening R-Jan Mica, a successful formica furniture business, and operating the one-man business until his retirement. Ralph, with Bea by his side, worked and played equally hard. He was the life of the party, loved taking cruises, and exuberantly celebrated family milestones. He was old-school Italian, deeply sentimental, and a rock when we needed him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Beatrice; four step-children, Edward Klug of Wiesbaden, Germany; Kenneth (Jennifer) Klug of Chuluota, FL; Barbara (Richard) McGee of Leesburg, FL; and Janet (Curtis) Walker of Dammeron Valley, UT; grandchildren Jason (Lucia) Klug, Steven McGee, Justin McGee, Kelly Novic, Corey Klug, Kyle Klug, Savannah Walker, and Alexa Walker; great-grandchildren Devin Klug, Aurora Klug and Bella Klug; sisters Phyllis (John) Raio of W. Caldwell, NJ; Lillian (Ed) Babson of W. Caldwell, NJ; Laura (Edmund) Joo of W. Caldwell, NJ; and many, many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maria and Salvatore D'Elia; brothers, Emilio Delio and Arthur D'Elia; and sisters, Isabella Ciarmoli and Ana Iberio.
