Obituary

Ms. Maureen Sealy Obituary A REMARKABLE LADY Maureen Sandra Sealy was born on February 27th, 1955 to Paulina Henry and Joseph Allan Sealy on the island of Trinidad. She was preceded in death by her sister Gemma and leaves to mourn her daughter Brittney, her stepmother Enid; her sisters Pamela, Marlene, Carlene; her brothers Calvin and Anthony; brother-in-law Neville; nieces Lauree and Faith; nephews Kenrick, Ricardo, Michael, Lance and Eron; great nieces Malika and Maxine; great nephew Ricky and numerous other family and friends. Maureen attended San Juan Girls primary school and St. Francois Girls high school. After graduating from high school the family migrated to New York. At first Maureen did not like the cold winters but soon adapted to her new life in Yonkers. Maureen began her working career at the Bank of New York where she worked for several years. She then worked in diverse agencies for the City of New York where she was ultimately promoted to Human Resource Director. In 1993 Maureen welcomed her only child Brittney, who became the joy of her life. During this period, despite her hectic life, she successfully attained her Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of New Rochelle and a MBA from Bernard M. Baruch College. In the summer of 2001, Maureen decided to relocate with Brittney, then 7 years old to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Shortly after, Maureen started working as a Human Resources Analyst for the Town of Davie. After working there for six years, Maureen became a certified middle/high school math teacher. With that certification, she started working at Huntington Learning Center to do what she truly loved, tutoring students in math. Not only did she tutor at the learning center but she also tutored many of Brittney's classmates at her house. Maureen accepted the Lord Jesus and became a dedicated member of the Media Ministry at Christian Life Center. She also served in the church by opening up her home to host the Single Moms Life Group. It was during this time Maureen began to experience symptoms that baffled her doctors. Eventually she was diagnosed with a rare condition called Stiff Person Syndrome. She struggled to maintain a normal life for her and Brittney. In the summer of 2012, her health took a critical turn. After being in different hospitals and facilities for about nine months, she was finally off of the ventilator and was able to return home. After being home for only 3 months, Maureen was readmitted into the hospital. The disease continued to take a toll on her body causing her muscles and organs to stiffen and making her susceptible to infections. Unfortunately, the final infection was the one that led to her passing on Tuesday June 25 at 2:30 am. Maureen made friends easily and was generous with her time and resources. She was also generous with her advice if needed and she also expected it to be followed when given. If something needed organizing, Maureen was eager to do so. She was a go-getter in every sense of the word and possessed an endless source of energy. That's why it was it was so sad and frustrating to see this very active person in the prime of her life struggle with this horrendous disease. Brittney succeeded in making her very proud by attaining her Bachelor of Science in May at the tender age of 19yrs. Maureen will be immensely missed by all her family and friends who loved her dearly. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Ms. Maureen Sandra Sealy please visit our Sympathy Store.
