Obituary

Ms. Ruth Richardson Obituary Ruth A. Richardson departed this life on Friday, July 4th, 2014; at 6:00 p. m. She was born on November 19, 1921; to the late Beatrice Thompson-Richardson, and John Richardson in Hartwell Georgia. Ruth was the youngest child of five siblings; who all preceded her in death. Ruth never married. Ruth is survived by her Daughter, Nicole Devontenno, three Grand Children; Destinee Roach, Jordan Devontenno, and Aliyah Devontenno; and one Great Grand child; Tamia Merritt, and a host of friends and one very large Church family. There is one very special young man that Ruth leaves to carry on her legacy. That young man she raised from four months of age; until her passing; for the entire 61 years of his life. Her number one concern as she achieved advanced age; was that he would continue to wax strong. That young man is Waives Luis Colon Sanchez (otherwise known as Pewee). Ruth Attended high school in Hightstown, New Jersey. After leaving High School, Ruth enlisted in the Army to Avoid the Common Place-Subtle Racism in her New Jersey Community. She became one of the initial 140 Trial Black Female Soldiers (called the Women's Auxiliary Army corps) in the U. S. Army. It did not take long for her to discover that Segregation and Racism were both alive and well there too. Never the less, she completed her 2-year tour of duty honorably. Later Ruth moved to New York where she took up residence. She took on a job in an electronics Company (Arrow Electronics). She worked there until her retirement. She became a staunch supportive Member of Mount Zion commandment Keeping Church; where she carried out her Creed as our Eldest Church Mother with distinction. She may be gone, but never forgotten.
