Donna Marie Shaw

Donna Marie Shaw was born August 20, 1961, to Gwendolyn Powell and Keith Rowe in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, W.I. She attended Pembroke Hall Primary School in Kingston, Jamaica. She migrated to Brooklyn, New York in 1977 where she attended high school and New York City College. In 1984 she married her sweetheart Leroy Shaw; their union produced three wonderful sons Bruce, Joseph, and Christopher. Donna dedicated her life to Christ and was baptized at the Maranatha SDA Church in Brooklyn, New York. The characteristics of love and caregiving Donna developed emanated throughout her life. Donna developed the characteristics of love and caregiving, these attributes emanated throughout her life toward those with whom she came in contact.

Her stepmothers Rema Sherwood and Vilma Rowe were instrumental in her upbringing. She worked in banking, first with Lehman Brothers and later Chase Bank in New York City. In 1990, Donna along with her family moved to Kissimmee, Florida where they were joined by her mother-in-law Pearl Beadle. She pursued a career in health care and received an AS Degree in Nursing. She worked with Advent Health and Orlando Health for more than 28 years up till her passing. As her coworkers will attest, she was a true professional: she mentored nursing students and new nurses, as well as being a diligent, loving, and caring nurse. A dutiful daughter, an exceptional wife (caring for her husband while taking care of herself with her illness). Wonderful mother, grandmother, loving sister, cousin, a true friend and a great cook. Donna loved to travel and lived a life that touched many people, whether it was trips to Jamaica with her mother Gwendolyn or England to visit her family, she always took the effort to reach people where they were. We will never forget the calm, pleasant disposition and million-dollar smile with perfectly white teeth.

Donna is survived by her husband Leroy Shaw; children Bruce, Joseph, and Christopher; mother Gwendolyn Powell, stepfather Clement Powell, stepmothers Rema Sherwood and Vilma Rowe; four grandchildren, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, Godchildren, and a host of extended family and friends. By God’s grace, we will meet when Jesus comes again.
