Gregory Wilson Obituary

Gregory Dale Wilson, age 63, went home to be with the Lord on January 1, 2021. Greg was born to Marlin D. (“Dale”) and Mary Ann Hamil in Warren, Arkansas. After spending his early childhood in Arkansas and Missouri, Greg accompanied his parents to Florida as they followed his father’s football coaching career. At age 12, his family moved to Orlando. After attending Lakeview and Evans high schools where his father coached, Greg graduated from Edgewater High School, where he started on the football team. He then graduated from the University of Central Florida in 1981, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in business. While attending UCF, Greg served as an assistant football coach under his father at Lee Junior High. At UCF, Greg was an active leader in his fraternity, Pi Kappa Alpha (“Pike”), and intramural sports. After graduation, he worked as Chapter Advisor for Pi Kappa Alpha in Memphis. Returning to Orlando to begin a career in commercial real estate, Greg married and started a family with Pamela Van Hook, where they had two sons. He and his family were members of Orangewood Church in Maitland. In 1992, Greg and his family moved to Tallahassee, where they lived and worked for approximately 20 years. Greg, a licensed real estate broker, had a 25+ year successful commercial real estate career in sales and property management. Greg loved to spend time with his family camping, fishing, and hunting. He served as an Asst. Boy Scout Leader as his sons pursued and earned their Eagle Scout ranks, coached City League flag football, and also served on the UCF Athletics Booster Board and as a Deacon at Wildwood Presbyterian Church. Greg returned to his “home”, Orlando, in 2009. Greg loved college football, specifically supporting his beloved UCF Golden Knights, and his second favorite team, FSU. He also enjoyed spending time with his fraternity brothers and friends. Greg was kindhearted and always encouraged those around him. His most treasured and proudest moments were those spent with his sons and watching their lives unfold. Greg is survived by his two sons – Patrick Boyd Wilson, SFC, U.S. Army of Austin, TX and Scott Van Hook Wilson of Charleston, SC; and two brothers - Glen Wilson of Orlando and Gary (Betsy) Wilson of Maitland. Due to COVID, there will be a private celebration of Greg’s life for family on Saturday, January 9, 2021. The service will also be broadcast via Facebook Live to allow friends to participate. Interment will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Park in Winter Park, where he will be laid to rest by his parents. In lieu of flowers, Patrick and Scott ask that donations be made in his honor to either the USO (www.uso.org) or to Reformed University Fellowship (RUF) givetoruf.org/ and designate FSU.
