Leopold "Softly" Constantine Brooks passed away September 16, 2022, following a brief illness. "Brooksie" (a name given to him by his young grandchildren who, even then, knew that calling him "grandpa" wasn't enough of an expression of their affection and love for him) was born in Harkers Hall, St. Catherine, on February 22, 1943, to Miriam Thompson and Frankie Brooks. Brooks is the 4th of seven siblings. After attending Sargeantville All Age School, he went to work for Greyline Bus Company, where he began his career in mechanics. He later went to work at Caledonia Motors, where he mastered his trade. Brooks worked in Jamaica for several years, most notably for Frank Hall Homes, where he was employed for twenty-plus years before migrating to the United States in 1990.
In 1980, he married Francis Pryce; Mark and Emrick are the offspring of their union.
After a brief stay in Miramar, Florida, Brooks and his family relocated to New York, where he worked for thirteen years until his retirement in December 2008. Brooks and Francis moved to Kissimmee, Florida, in 2013 and have lived there for the past nine years. Brooks enjoyed the outdoors and spent his time gardening, planting vegetables and fruits in his backyard, and talking with his Kissimmee and South Florida neighbors (if you know, you know).
Anyone who knew Brooksie understood his very quiet and loving nature, ensuring his loved ones were safe and secure. He loved his wife and children and enjoyed his grandchildren to the fullest. On September 16th, 2022, Brooks quietly slept away surrounded by his loved ones after a short illness.
Surviving him are his wife of forty-two years - Frances; his children - Mark, Emrick, Charmaine, Nadine, Leslie Ann, Vanessa, Angela, and Kim; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; his twin sister Blossom, Gloria; his brothers - Seymour and Marsden; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
