Rodney Allen Obituary

Rodney A. Allen was born January 13, 1982, to the proud parents Mr. Ronald & Mamie Allen in West Palm Beach, Florida. Rodney was the sibling to four sisters and three brothers.

Rodney grew up in the Ephesus SDA Church in West Palm Beach, Florida. This is where his music ministry began. He has been described as a child prodigy, a musical genius, and a keyboard phenom and legend. At the early at of 8, he started playing for Ephesus Day Care, Ephesus Junior Academy, and for the Community Service Department of the church. He began with learning how to play the guitar and saxophone. His instructor, however, told him that his hands were too big to play those instruments. Nevertheless, he learned to play them, along with the piano and drums. At the age of 13, Rodney gave his first benefit concert to help with the church’s building fund.

Rodney was a product of Adventist Christian education. He attended Ephesus Day Care, Ephesus Junior Academy, and Pine Forge Academy. During his matriculation through Pine Forge, he played for many groups and used his musical gift. He returned home to complete his high school education at R.J. Henley High School. After high school, Rodney attended Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, Tennessee and later Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama. He also received police academy training.

Rodney’s musical gift was used both far and near. His music ministry traveled to Europe, where he visited the countries of France, Portugal, and Spain. He also played for the Mississippi Mass Choir and for countless pastors, churches, choirs, groups, and soloists throughout the world. His ministry enhanced the services at the Southeastern Conference Campmeeting and Junior Camp in Hawthorne, Florida for many years.

Rodney's giftedness was found in more than just the music he played on a keyboard. It was also found in the way he touched people's lives with his smile, his laughter, and in his uncanny ability to inspire people to believe in themselves, in their dreams, and in their own giftedness. Rodney was the consummate encourager and to just about everyone who really knew him, he was either their little brother or their big brother. While our hearts are saddened, we know that Rodney brought joy to many, and this will never be forgotten.

On July 10th, Rodney was headed to Tampa, Florida to meet with Pastor Crider of the Mt. Calvary SDA Church in preparation for Sabbath service. Once again, he was traveling to use his musical gift, something that he loved doing. However, Rodney did not reach his destination that evening. He is now resting until Jesus returns.

He was preceded in death by his father- Ronald Allen, Sr.; his brother- Ronald Allen, Jr.; and his sister- Shirley Allen. He leaves to mourn his mother- Mamie Allen; brothers- Fritzroy Allen, Keith (Miranda) Allen, sisters- Lisa (Rick) Ricketts, Marvelle (Leroy) Freeman, Ineke Allen; and a host of family members, friends, classmates, and church members. RIP
