Stanley Newton McKenzie

Stanley Newton McKenzie was born on June 22, 1930 in Chudleigh, Manchester Jamaica and he was the second child of nine siblings to Edwin and Zada McKenzie. His siblings are: Joyce, George, Gertrude, Hubert, Ann, Mable, Derene, Inizl and Harold (deceased). Three of Stanley’s siblings currently reside in Jamaica, three reside in New York City, one resides in California and one in Florida.

At a very young age, Stanley attended Bethany Primary School in Manchester, Jamaica until he had to leave school to do work to support his family. While Stanley was growing up, he worked with his father and brothers doing lots of farming and taking care of animals. While in Jamaica in the early 1950s Stanley and his mother attended an Evangelistic meeting held by Seventh-day Adventists. After the meeting was over Stanley and his mother accepted the Seventh-day Adventist message and were later baptized into the faith. Ever since his conversion, Stanley loved Jesus and remained a true and faithful member of the Seventh-day Adventist faith—thus becoming a powerful Patriarch in leading his family to follow on in the Seventh-day Adventist faith.

Stanley was a diligent worker and he was called to do farming work in the United States on two separate occasions. After coming home from his first trip to the United States, Stanley decided to accompany his sister, Ann, to England. After a few months in England, Stanley returned to Jamaica and shortly after he was called again to do farm work in the United States. Stanley did farm work for several years and after that, he moved to New York City to seek a different vocation. While in New York City, Stanley met Mary Virginia Summers. They courted for a time and Stanley asked Mary to marry him.

Stanley and Mary married in 1964 and from this union, they had three children: Don, Steve, and Carolyn. Stanley and his family lived in New York City until 1969, and it was in this year Stanley decided to move his family to the sunshine state of Florida. While in Florida, Stanley and his family lived in several cities until their final move to Orlando, Florida in 1985. Sometime after moving to Orlando,

Stanley got a job working for the Orange County Public School System as a Landscape Grounds Engineer. Stanley loved his job and did it faithfully until he retired in 1996. After retiring in 1996, Stanley continued to work. He was not the type of man to just sit around and do nothing once he retired. To keep himself busy and active, Stanley did odd jobs like painting, yard work, collecting metal, cans, and the like. He and Mary did this for nearly 20 years after retirement.

Before Stanley closed his eyes and went to sleep in Jesus on April 11, 2021, he was a faithful and diligent witness for Jesus. While in the nursing homes and the hospitals he resided in, Stanley was always quoting scriptures and singing to the glory of God. He always attracted a lot of attention and those who heard and saw him could not help wondering, “Who is this man who sings about the Jesus that he loves so how much”?

When Stanley is resurrected on that Great Gettin’ Up Morning, when the Life Giver, Jesus returns, Stanley will wake up a young man and be given a “Robe of Light.” He will wear this for the rest of eternity, have the privilege to eat from the “Tree of Life,” and he will travel throughout the universe beholding the infinite glorious creations of God.
